Defined
Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Fusion is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat chronic pain caused by dysfunction or instability of the sacroiliac joint, which connects the spine to the pelvis. When conservative treatments such as physical therapy, medications, and injections are no longer effective, SI joint fusion may provide lasting pain relief and improved stability.
Procedure
Using small incisions and advanced imaging guidance, your physician places specialized implants across the SI joint to stabilize the joint and encourage bone fusion over time. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis or with a short hospital stay, depending on your individual needs.
After Care
You will receive detailed instructions regarding walking, weight-bearing, and activity progression. Physical therapy may be recommended as part of your recovery. While some patients notice early improvement, complete healing and fusion occur gradually over several months. Regular follow-up appointments help ensure proper recovery and long-term success.
